Eight Artists Awarded Finland Prizes

The Ministry of Education and Culture awarded the Finland Prize to eight artists. Among this year’s prize winners were Maaretta Jaukkuri, curator; Siri Kolu, author; Tiina Lymi, director; Outi Pieski, visual artist; Dalia Stasevska, conductor; Pajtim Statovci, author; Sirkus Suosalo theatre; and Björn Weckström, sculptor and jewellery artist. In addition, the Finnish Glass Museum was awarded an honorary diploma.

Central government recapitalisation to be secured for the new Museum of Architecture and Design

Central government is prepared to provide capital funding totalling EUR 58 million this year and next year to the Foundation for the Finnish Museum of Architecture and Design. The return on capital will enable the work of a world-class museum in a new building in Helsinki. The Government proposal on the recapitalisation of the Foundation for the Museum is included in the third supplementary budget proposal for 2024 submitted to Parliament.

Performance of immigrant students in PISA 2022

The PISA 2022 results show that there are still major disparities in performance between immigrant and non-immigrant students in all domains of assessment. Underperformance of students with an immigrant background is often explained by weak reading performance and lower socio-economic status.

Anders Adlercreutz appointed Minister of Education

The President also released Anna-Maija Henriksson from her duties as Minister of Education and as a member of the Government.

 


WHO report highlights progress and challenges in improving physical activity levels across the European Union

A new report from WHO “Health-enhancing physical activity in the European Union, 2024” presents the latest data on physical activity across the European Union (EU), reflecting on the progress achieved in making health-enhancing physical activity an integral part of people’s lives. The report reveals that there has been a notable improvement in the implementation of physical activity policies in the EU from 2015 to 2024.

Round table discusses inclusion and leisure activities of multilingual young people

Minister of Youth, Sport and Physical Activity Sandra Bergqvist and representatives of cities, various organisations and young people met at a round table event on Wednesday 19 June to discuss the inclusion and leisure activities of multilingual young people. The aim of the event was to find concrete measures to increase multilingual young people’s inclusion and opportunities for leisure activities.
